Somebody, not something

Who are we?
We are a non-profit foundation that stands up for animal rights. Our mission is to help animals and to make sure they are treated with respect and love.
We are here to bear witness that an animal is not “something”, but Somebody. That is what our Polish name, Ktoś, nie coś, means.
Animals are living beings who depend on people, and at the same time they are able to feel suffering, they are self-aware and they have dignity. That is why they deserve special protection.
To us, every animal is Somebody important — Somebody who feels just like we do.
Our mission

We help animals and protect their rights.
We encourage people to see animals as beings who can feel and express emotions, and who have the right to life, to dignity, to meeting their needs and to communicating.
We also protect and care for animals hands-on — the foundation runs the Ktosiowo Sanctuary. Rescued animals find shelter here and rediscover the joy of living – they are treated and rehabilitated, they receive love and get to know the good side of people.
At the Ktosiowo Sanctuary, people help animals and animals help people.
Our goals

Rescue
We rescue animals that are suffering, neglected, abandoned, sick or disabled, and those facing death at the slaughterhouse. We give them medical care and the right conditions to recover.
Running the Sanctuary
Our Ktosiowo Sanctuary is a home for rescued animals. This is where they rediscover the joy of living, receive treatment and are loved.
Education
We put great emphasis on teaching children and young people to see animals as sentient beings. We nurture the sensitivity of new generations and instil in them a love for our smaller brothers and sisters.
How do we work?

We act from the heart and help without expecting anything in return.
We report every case of animal cruelty and neglect.
We act as the injured party on behalf of animals that have been neglected and harmed – we represent their rights in court.
We run the Ktosiowo Sanctuary, which has become a refuge for animals that are sick, disabled, old or no longer able to work. We give them lifelong care or help them find new, responsible guardians.
We hold talks and workshops on protecting animals and the environment.
We are a registered public benefit organisation (OPP) — our statute and activity reports are public.
