The Ktoś Foundation was born of dreams of a better world for animals, born of love — sincere and selfless.
The name “Ktoś” (Somebody) was no accident: it stresses how important it is to see animals as living beings, not things that people own.
Setting up the Foundation was the first step towards doing what our hearts told us: saving lives, helping, and putting right the harm people have done to animals. It was 2019 when, full of faith that it was possible, we began building a world for rescued animals — the Ktosiowo Sanctuary. A world where a dignified life and meeting the needs of each species come first. We soon understood that public education is also important, in fact crucial, if we want to change the world beyond Ktosiowo too. We are surrounded by people who share our values, walk with us and help, also selflessly, giving their own time and energy to change the world of animals for the better, even just a little. There are of course also those who try to stand in our way, but they will not succeed, because our hearts are full of faith and we fight to get through crises that, in truth, have so far only hardened and strengthened us.
It is 2024 and 5 years of our work have passed — a time to look back and, at the same time, to thank you very much. Thank you for being with us in the good times and the hard ones. Thank you for every kind of support we have received from you, and for your part in changing the fate of animals in Poland, because without you, we would not be here today either. The Ktosiowo Sanctuary is full of stories with happy endings, but also of ones over which we have cried an ocean of tears. Our hearts have broken more than once and despair has drained our strength, but we stand firm in defence of our ideals. Sometimes fate set us almost impossible challenges, but we never gave up, because more animals in need kept appearing.
Looking into the eyes of those for whom Ktosiowo has become home, we knew that loving is worth it and helping is worth it. And that faith is still unshaken in us. Our greatest success is the changed lives of the rescued animals, but also the change in people who, through education, begin to understand that every animal has the right to a dignified life and that humans owe it respect, care and the chance to meet the needs of its species.
We plan to celebrate our 5th anniversary with an open day at the Sanctuary, and you are warmly invited. There will also be a competition and the launch of an educational book, “Wojtuś dzielny kucyk” (Wojtuś, the Brave Pony), written by our president. More details soon.
