Groszek
Boss of the Veggie Patch. Groszek (Polish for “Pea”) is a charming, small pony who, together with his “veggie family” — Gruszka, Pietruszka and Natka — was rescued from extremely bad conditions. The intervention was really difficult… and at times looked like a comedy.
The whole family, not realising that we had come for them for their own good, started running around with us as if in a game of tag. Groszek? The toughest opponent. Agile, quick, clever — as if he had trained his whole life for that one day. After a few hours we managed to catch them all safely.
The owner was later convicted of animal cruelty, and the court ordered the animals to be forfeited, entrusting the whole veggie crew to us.
After arriving, Groszek had to be kept apart from the herd for a while because he was a stallion — but after being gelded he could finally join the rest of the cheerful pony crew and regain his calm and confidence. Today Groszek is cheerful, safe and happy… but still wary of people.
