Kasia

Kasia has been through more in her life than any horse ever should. For years she was treated like a machine – for giving birth to foals. During her last foaling there were serious complications: Kasia lost her foal, developed an inflammation and then laminitis – one of the most painful and dangerous hoof diseases.
Her fate was sealed. She was to go to the slaughterhouse. It was a vet who asked us to save her life. We managed to raise the money needed and buy her out, but it was at the clinic that the battle for her health and her life began.
Today Kasia is safe in Ktosiowo, but her struggle is not over yet. The laminitis has come back, affecting both front hooves. The mare needs specialist medication, constant veterinary care, regular visits from a farrier who specialises in difficult cases, and special orthopaedic boots that allow her to walk without pain.
Despite all her suffering, Kasia has remained gentle, trusting and incredibly affectionate. She loves human company, asks for closeness herself, and seems to know that she is finally in a place where she can be herself. She is also absolutely impossible to miss — huge and fair-haired - without doubt the most beautiful blonde in Ktosiowo. And if by some miracle someone fails to notice her… Kasia will take a step towards them herself.
