Maximus

Maximus is a huge, majestic cold-blooded horse who only got the chance of a real, good life after 11 years. His story is hard and deeply moving. Instead of enjoying a horse’s freedom, he was treated purely as a breeding stallion. For most of his life he stood shut away, seeing the world only through bars. No exercise, no pasture, no sun, no company of other horses. He was treated like a tool – never as a living, feeling being. We named him after the valiant gladiator — and the name suits him perfectly. Because Maximus really has survived everything.
What is he like today? Despite years of isolation and harm, he has turned out to be an exceptionally gentle, sensitive and… trusting horse. He is learning about the world all over again — discovering touch, closeness, freedom and people who see him not as a “machine” but as a friend. The most beautiful thing was watching him stand in front of an open stable door for the first time. He couldn’t believe he could walk out — he looked out, backed away, looked out again…
And then, very slowly, he took his first step outside. Today every walk around the paddock is a huge joy for him. For the first time he feels the wind in his mane, the ground under his hooves and the freedom he simply deserves.
