Śnieżka

Śnieżka is our granny, an old lady and one of the oldest residents of Ktosiowo. When she came to us, she was an example of many years of neglect. Her hooves were badly overgrown, and the trimming had to be done in stages, with enormous care. It worked — today Śnieżka moves without pain and has no problems with her legs, which shows how much can be put right with patience and proper care.

Śnieżka also struggles with RAO (recurrent airway obstruction) — she sometimes has difficulty breathing. Another consequence of years of neglect was the state of her teeth — the lack of regular dental care meant that all her incisors had to be removed. Even so, Śnieżka copes bravely and has learnt to manage in her new reality. Because of this, Śnieżka's tongue sometimes pokes out — she looks endearing, sweet and a little funny, as if she wanted to make us laugh even more.

As a grey pony she also suffers from melanomas — a typical condition in older grey horses. Removal and cryotherapy have already been tried, but unfortunately the growths keep coming back. We monitor her condition and make sure she has the best possible quality of life.

Śnieżka is a symbol of the fate of animals neglected for years — but also proof that even after a hard life it is possible to find peace, safety and care. Today she is our granny, the senior of the herd, surrounded by care and tenderness.

We very much hope she will stay with us for as long as possible.
