Foxes

Our 2 foxes – Kiki and Jiji – are siblings rescued from a fur farm. They have never known freedom, but we do everything we can so that they can behave the way their wild cousins do: run, climb, dig, pick fruit from the bushes, hunt their toys and mark every new object in their aviary.

We look after the foxes together with the Fundacja Instytut Empatii (Empathy Institute Foundation). Our part of the cost of keeping the foxes covers their daily care, looking after the grounds, environmental enrichment and part of their food.

Foxes are omnivores, but 90% of their diet is meat. The other 10% is eggs, vegetables and fruit.

Kiki and Jiji are silver fox siblings – silver foxes are a colour variant of the red fox whose fur is highly prized by the clothing industry.

Our foxes come from a fur farm, which they managed to escape from while still cubs, straight into the care of the Pegasus Shelter (Schronisko Pegasus). Both foxes stayed with us in Musuły after our move and are now in our permanent care.

Their names come from one of Hayao Miyazaki's animated films (Kiki's Delivery Service), and their personalities suit the film just as well. Both are mischievous and full of energy.

Kiki ♀ is cautious and always takes a good look at new objects and visitors. Jiji ♂ is a bit bolder and immediately checks everything out with his teeth.

They both love tug toys and always keep a close eye on any cleaning work in their enclosure.
