Veronika

Veronika is a brave little princess. She came to us as a foal of about 4 months – tiny, delicate and undernourished – straight from a farmer who did not have the means to provide her with care and treatment. Her mum did not have enough milk, so Veronika needed our support from the very moment she arrived. We fed her formula milk with enormous dedication and care, watching her grow and gain strength day after day. The first horse to find a place in her heart was Vivat – he was the first to befriend her at the sanctuary.
When Frodo, a foal of a similar age, joined us, he and Veronika formed a special bond. Together, under the care of the mare Frezja, they made up a small herd full of carefree play and shared discoveries. Frezja later went to an adoptive home, while Veronika and Frodo stayed together. We introduced them, together, into the herd with the adult horses.
Recently, however, it turned out that Veronika has Wobbler syndrome – a condition that often shows itself at around 3 years of age and can affect the nervous system. When it flares up, she needs the support of medication.
We don't yet know how the illness will develop, but we hope that over time it will subside and our princess will regain her full fitness.
Veronika is safe and loved here, and she is monitored by specialists. Her story is a reminder that every life, even the smallest and weakest, deserves a chance and care.
